I'm a big fan of WC! It started back in 2006, and this is the 2nd WC for me. So for the past one month or so, WC has infatuated me, badly! I was glued to my telly almost every evening after work just to catch the match from group stage to the final (but selective match at the group stage).
As we all know, for this WC, the hottest topic across the globe ain't the players or the match, but Paul the psychic octopus who predicted the result of 8 WC matches accurately (and now he is retiring)! Some wanted to deep fry the octopus while some wanted to keep them in their aquarium!
So, one fine day last week, my two derange (but cute) friends and i were exchanging emails at work, and one of them predicted something accurately, so the other called her RT (her initial) the octopus. Later, this other girl also predicted something correctly, so we called her the octopus too. I dont want to be left out, so i said i want to be mermaid (sea creature family)! Suddenly, RT's creative juice in making fun of her friends bursted and mooted the idea of localising the title - octopus is too glamour for us (-_-). So instead of octopus, my friend YC is sotong (we don't know what octopus is called in BM, so we used 'sotong', which to us, is the closest to octopus) and I'm the ikan bilis! Can you imagine?! from MERMAID i become IKAN BILIS? OMG.. so.. so... LOCAL! hahahah. How can I let her to get away from this so easily.. so I named her ketam!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
She outright objected to the name and she defended herself saying that there's no logic to naming her ketam (while there's logic to us being called sotong and ikan bilis). Her reasoning is: YC successfully predicted something, and sotong is the closest direct translation for octopus, and for me, i volunteer to be mermaid and mermaid is a fish, when translate into BM it become ikan bilis. It make sense! But how and where did ketam come from?? (ketam is very popular in malaysia, we have an island named after ketam - Pulau Ketam. And she came up with the idea to localise the name! That's why you are ketam ;P)
We all just omitted her and carried on calling her ketam!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
From that day onwards, we turned into sea creatures:
YC = sotong
RT = ketam
Jojo = ikan bilis
Note: YC and RT are not their real initial, they were used to disguise their identity and to protect the privacy of my two derange friends or should i say to protect myself from being slaughter by them.
